One Tip to Insure You Won’t Lose Control Over Your Marketing

Were you caught off guard earlier this week when Meta went down?

I sure had a moment of panic earlier this week when Facebook, Instagram, and Threads were all out-of-order. With two events on the docket this month, what if people couldn’t see our events on social media anymore?

Fortunately, everything was resolved within a few hours. With good reason; apparently it costs Meta an estimated $13 million PER HOUR in lost revenue when their networks are down! I bet somebody’s butt was on fire to get things back online. LOL

Seriously though, what if you depend on social media for your business marketing, what will you do if the whole system goes down for an extended period?

That’s contingency planning, and while it applies to anything in your business (from having a backup of your website to having insurance on your building), having your own customer list is crucial.

I know this may sound over-the-top for some businesses in retail and foodservice. But what if you were able to advise your top 10, 50 or 100 customers on something important? Expert marketers often say 80% of your business often comes from just 20% of your clientele. Think of this not just as an “in-case” backup tactic, but a strategy to cultivate your followers by informing them about sales and various promotions.

If you gather the names of your customers and use the list regularly, you don’t depend on the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world to market your business.

In the end that’s what helped me heave a sigh of relief this week. Regardless of how long Meta was down, I knew I could email our 600+Business Sisters directly to let them know about our events and everything else we have going on. It's one tip I have to insure you won't lose control over your marketing!

We are entering a time when women need to take our place, fill up our space and be who we are without apology. I have difficulty with this and thus I try to keep expanding, keep learning, keep letting go of those past experiences that have kept me small(er). Our culture and past societal 'norms' in a patriarchal time have diminished our voice in addition to other past traumas to women. In supporting each other we can rise together without guilt or shame for being a b*tch or any other shadow expression of our soul, to embrace our power that is within. (Please note I have recently come off of a feminine empowerment retreat called Rise Sister Rise.)
