At our recent Business Sisters networking event, we embraced the power of intention. We encouraged participants to reflect on their goals: Were they seeking information, solutions, or a sounding board for their ideas?
This introspection set the stage for the Ask & Give session, a practice I witnessed at the 2020 SheEO (now Coralus) conference in Toronto. Picture this: 300 attendees, a room buzzing with potential, and a simple question from the moderator: “Who has a question or a challenge they need help with?”
Hands shot up, and the session transformed into a crowdsourced problem-solving exercise. I recall one electric moment when a participant’s query about connecting with a senior executive at Penguin Pickup was answered by someone whose brother-in-law held a key position there. It was serendipity in action!
Since then, I’ve incorporated Ask & Give into various groups I’ve led, and the results have been nothing short of remarkable. At our first networking event of 2024, the magic was alive once more.
Leah sought a contact at Fresh Radio in Cornwall, and Patricia, who had a connection there, eagerly offered to introduce her. Jessica’s quest to sell her artwork and scarves was met with immediate interest from fellow attendees. And when Natasha needed affordable kitchen equipment for her food truck, the silence was broken by Leah’s promise to tap into her restaurant-owner friends for help.
These stories highlight the incredible outcomes that can arise from setting clear intentions and joining a group dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship. While we can’t promise a solution to every problem at every Business Sisters event, we can guarantee a supportive community ready to listen and offer help.
